Cooking

We have small group cooking lessons every Tuesday and Thursday. Children are offered the opportunity to cook across the term. Cooking sessions include teaching the children how to weigh out foods, use different utensils and having discussions about ‘The Eat Well Plate’ and what we should eat lots of and what we should only have as a treat. We also implement good hygiene with hand washing, washing up used kitchen items and keeping our fingers out of our mouths when cooking!

When cooking we are careful with food allergies and intolerances to ensure all children can take part and take their cooked foods home to share with their families if they wish to!

Physical Education

The pre-schoolers in the Moons Class take part in weekly PE lessons every Monday from 10:30am.  Children are encouraged to get changed into their ‘PE Kits’ and learn how to get dressed and undressed independently, including learning how to put on shoes and socks. PE Lessons take part at the in the nursery garden during the warmer months and in the hall next door in the cooler months.

Gardening

The children all love being in the garden. On a Tuesday afternoon we go in the garden to plant and take care of the plants we have in the garden. We ensure to have plants growing at the right time of the year! Each year the children get to take a sunflower home, which they can watch grow in their garden.

Yoga

On a Wednesday afternoon, the children are offered to participate in ‘yoga for kids’, this is with one of the Moons’ staff members and the children explore moving their bodies to make them big and small.

Dough Disco

Dough disco takes place on a Friday and involves moulding play dough in time and pace to music of the children’s interest, such as Disney songs and nursery rhymes and performing different actions such as rolling it into a ball or a sausage, flattening it, putting each finger into the dough, rolling it and squeezing it.

French

French is taught to the older children on a Wednesday morning. We plan and implement small group French lessons with the pre-schoolers in which we learn to sing nursery rhymes, say different greetings, name colours and numbers and even name different emotions all in French!

Meal Times

Breakfast is from 8am to 8:45am. We offer a selection of cereals and fruit with cow’s milk or dairy free alternative milk.

Morning rolling snack is from 10:00am. Here we offer a selection of fruits with a drink of water or milk. Dairy and Gluten Free alternatives are also available. Children will independently choose their fruit which has been prepared and pour a cup of milk or drink from their water bottle.

Lunch is from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. We are a packed lunch setting so please send your child with a premade lunch. As a guide, lunches should include: a sandwich, fruit or veg, a drink, and no more than one chocolatey or sweet item. Pre-cooked meals can be warmed in our kitchen (pasta for example). We are also a NUT FREE setting.

Afternoon snack is around 2pm in which children are offered a cracker, raisins and a drink. Again, they will be given a plate of crackers in the middle of the table to share and a spoonful of raisins from the bowl.

Tea is served at 4pm and prepared in our kitchen by Beacon Hill Staff. Tea is often a small meal of sandwiches, bagels with cheese and sausages, with fruit or yoghurts as a pudding. The children will always be offered a carbohydrate, protein and a vegetable or piece of fruit. All allergy plates are checked before leaving the kitchen.
